Assignment 2
Potential Updates will be posted here. Check the RSS regularly.
- Two clarifications for assignment 2: (1) Question 3.1.B refers to lemma 2.12; note that in this lemma, the left hand side should be interpreted as a mixture of K dirichlet distributions: the k-th mixture has proportion \bar \gamma_j and parameter \gamma + e_j. (2) Question 4.1.B is now optional. After permuting two customers, you will find that the probabilities differ by a product of factorials. These can be interpreted by using the column/feature exchangeability viewed in class.
- Extension for assignment 2: I will accept copies until Sunday April 17, 11:59 PST. Send me a email copy of source code by this time, and a written copy under my door by Monday morning April 18

Assignment 1
- In question 4.1 A, by "collapsing" I means "marginalizing"
- When setting up Eclipse: don't forget to select "Java project" in the dialog box that appears after hitting Ctrl-N (new project). You can type java in the search box of the same dialog box to locate it quickly.
- Important update for Question 3.2(C): In your code in ChainSumProduct.computeMoments(), if a normalization of zero (NEGATIVE_INFINITY in logspace) is found, your code needs to throw an exception if you want the harness code to do the proper thing. Throwing an exception is done with the line "throw new RuntimeException();"
