General printing command on all our Unix/Linux systems is

Note:
To borrow laptop and/or projector, you need to go to the general office to sign-in. When you return them, you need to sign-out in the general office.
The laptop installs both Microsoft Windows and Linux (red hat 8.0).
Both laptop and projector can be booked with the "xbooking" command in
hajek.
Ask the general office for help if you want to send fax. When you send fax, the document should face down.

The scanner is connect to the PC in the mail room. Both the software Photoshop and Acrobat can be used to import the scanned document. The procedures are almost the same. In the following procedures are based on Acrobat.
You can use the button just above the "Preview" button to adjust the scanning area. Once you click this button, an rectangle with dashed border will show up in the right panel of the EPSON TWAIN 5 window. Move the mouse over the dashed border. The shape of the mouse will change to a bar, both end of which is an arrow. Press the left-button of the mouse and drag the mouse to adjust the size of the rectangle. Make sure the size of the scanned document as small as possible. Click Preview button to update the scanning result.
Once you select the scanning area, you can press the "Scan" button to get the final version of the scanned document.
Occasionally, you need to adjust the scanning parameters (e.g. Image Type, Destination, and Resolution). You can click the "Help" button on the left-hand-side panel of the EPSON TWAIN 5 window. The following is a rough guideline.

If you are new user, you need register first (click on Register and follow the instructions, It will give you new passwd via Email). Do not use the same Password on Hajek to avoid security problems although this is pretty secure.
To change Passwd, first login. Next click on Profile to Edit your passwd , and other stuff.... Scroll down to the bottom, click on Change Profile to save.
You can check your e-mail by using web browsers. The webmail is at https://newton.stat.ubc.ca/horde/imp/login.php
In the computing room, there are some books on computing, such as SAS manuals, Splus manuals, SPSS manuals, LaTeX manuals. After your using the book, please return the book to the computing room so that other students can borrow them.

Here is how to connect to MSRC from Newton only 1)choose Newton on your CAIL terminal Login (GUI is the same as Hajek) Note: You don't have to ssh to Hajek to do mail, this is duplicate of Hajek) /usr/local/bin/win is where the command is >win & this will bring up a window call Citrix Client for Solaris 2)Under tab Entry, choose New This bring up another Properties box Under Network Protocal undo the Use default, choose TCP/IP Next box is Description : Type in any thing ie. MSRC Server type cain.ugrad.stat.ubc.ca Click Apply Next: Uptop click on network button . This will give you more option... Choose windows Under Window Colors Undo Use default choose 256 Under Window size Undo Use default Choose Percentage of screen (this is rather personal choice, leave it up to you) Click OK to close that window 3)Next just double click on the highlight "cain.ugrad.stat.ubc.ca" This will bring up Windows 2000 from MSRC.
Note: If your workstation uses neoware, then you can press
ctrl+alt+Endto switch to the host menu. Then from the host menu, you can choose cain/abel. You can use
ctrl+alt+Up/Down arrow
to toggle among the sessions you opened.

If you need to recover files you accidentally delete, you can login
Cedar and cd /data/Hajek/backup/.
This directory will be updated via rsync daily. That means it will over
written the older files.
