Guohai Zhou and Kris Hong first recipients of Rick White Award

Undergraduate Kris Hong and PhD student Guohai Zhou are the first recipients of the Rick White Award. This recently established award recognizes students who demonstrate excellence in statistical science through collaboration with investigators in another discipline on a substantial application. The award honours the memory of Rick White, who served the Department and the University with his gifts in Applied Statistics.

Kris is a Statistics major in our co-op program, with thematic concentration in Computer Science. He has collaborated with 2 outstanding interdisciplinary groups:  PROOF Centre of Excellence and the British Columbia Centre for Disease Control. Kris is the first author of 2 manuscripts (1 published and 1 in-press). In addition, Kris was a top student in STAT450 ("Case Studies in Statistics").

Guohai recently completed his PhD in Statistics. He was an essential member of the Pediatric Anesthesia team at BC Children’s Hospital, acting as a major consultant on statistical concepts and modeling, using R and SAS. Guohai has co-authored 2 methodologically oriented papers and 14 papers across a span of clinical areas.

Congratulations, Kris and Guohai!
