The Department of Statistics at UBC is a growing academic unit within the Faculty of Science with activities in research, education, and consulting. To meet the increasing demand for statistics and data science training at the undergraduate level, we are seeking a sessional lecturer for the upcoming Winter term. The appointment may be renewed subject to the need of the department, availability of funding, and demonstration of excellence in teaching. The terms and conditions of the lecturer appointment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between UBC and the UBC Faculty Association.
The successful candidate will work the equivalent of teaching a total of one three-credit course in our undergraduate program over the term of the appointment (e.g., September 1, 2023 until December 31, 2023).
It is anticipated that applicants must hold a Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Statistics or a related field, have prior university teaching experience, and have demonstrated potential to provide quality undergraduate instruction in the statistics and/or data science, at an introductory (100 or 200 level) or intermediate (300) level.
Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and aptitude for supervisory skills (e.g., TA supervision). The successful candidate will also be expected to have interest and aptitude in using active learning techniques and various educational technologies.
The salary for the term appointment is $13,000 (i.e., $3,250/month) with 4% vacation pay. The position is subject to final budgetary approval.
