We were very happy to read the Government of Canada’s recent announcement of new and renewed Canada Research Chairs (CRCs), especially because one of our professors, Natalia Nolde, is on the list of new CRC recipients. Natalia has now been named as a CRC Tier I in Statistics of Extremes and Risk.
Natalia’s research focuses on probabilistic and statistical aspects of multivariate extreme value modelling with applications to risk assessment in finance, insurance, hydrology and geoscience.
The federally funded Canada Research Chairs Program (CRCP) was launched in 2000 as a national strategy to attract and retain top researchers, to make Canada one of the world's top countries in research and development. Natalia’s CRC is one of five new CRCs at UBC. One CRC at UBC has also been renewed. In total, the Government of Canada announced 179 new and renewed CRCs, recognizing research excellence at 38 universities across Canada.
