Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair at UBC - April 10-12, 2025

The 42nd Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair (GVRSF) hosted at the University of British Columbia, featured 250 projects spanning life, environmental, and physical sciences. Over 400 students from grades 7-12 showcased their research. On April 11th, participants also had the opportunity to tour UBC’s science labs, sparking further interest in pursuing careers in science.

Linguistics Ph.D. student Farhan Samir wins 2024-25 Data Science Award
Congratulations, to the 2024 awardee, Farhan Samir! Farhan is in his fourth year of a Ph.D. in computational linguistics. He holds an NSERC Postgraduate Scholarship and an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship for his future postdoc studies. His advisor is Professor Jian Zhu.

Professor Natalia Nolde named CRC Tier I in Statistics of Extremes and Risk
We were very happy to read the Government of Canada’s recent announcement of new and renewed Canada Research Chairs (CRCs), especially because one of our professors, Natalia Nolde, is on the list of new CRC recipients. Natalia has now been named as a CRC Tier I in Statistics of Extremes and Risk.
