Programs and Requirements

Available Undergraduate Programs

The Statistics Department has several programs at the undergraduate level:

  • Majors/Honours in Statistics
  • Combined Major in Economics and Statistics
  • Major in Mathematical Sciences
  • Combined Major/Honour in Computer Science and Statistics
  • Combined Honour in Mathematics and Statistics
  • Co-operative Education
  • Minor in Statistics.

Students majoring in another area can minor in Statistics by completing 18 upper level STAT credits (MATH 302 can replace STAT 302).  Information on minors can be found in the calendar.

In addition, students can complete a degree in Statistics with a minor in another area, such as Economics or Commerce, with the approval of the Dean's Office in the Faculty of Science.

Program Requirements

There are three levels of requirements that must be satisfied. The first level of requirements applies to all students at UBC. The second level of requirements, which automatically satisfies the first level, applies to all students in the Faculty of Science.

Minor in Data Science

STAT credits (MATH 302 and ELEC 321 can be counted as STAT)

The third level of requirements is at the Department level, and is also described in the UBC Calendar. Click here for a list of courses that have sufficient overlap that credit may be obtained for only one.

For questions about Statistics program requirements, you may ask the Statistics Undergraduate Advisor (ugradadv [at] stat.ubc.ca (ugradadv at stat dot ubc dot ca)). For questions about Faculty of Science    requirements, you should ask a Faculty of Science advisor.

Admissions

Students in their first year interested in undergraduate statistics specializations should apply directly to the Faculty of Science.

Students of second year standing or higher wishing to be considered for late entry into a statistics specialization should contact an advisor at latemajorentrants at stat dot ubc dot ca.
