Our IT Director, Thé Ha (a.k.a. help [at] stat.ubc.ca!), is a 2018 recipient of a Faculty of Science Excellence in Service Award!
Thé has provided us with consistently excellent IT support for many years; hence, an "Excellence" award is truly befitting. But Thé's contributions go much further. By optimizing our computing infrastructure, he has provided an environment where faculty and graduate students can maximize their research productivity and achieve effective teaching and learning. Thé has been pivotal in providing training workshops to graduate students on new technologies, for instance. Similarly, ASDa workshops and special projects, as well as the main office, run smoothly thanks to his efforts. Moreover, much of our computing infrastructure has resulted from government grants, the rules for which would be almost impossible to navigate successfully without Thé's proactive involvement in the grant-application process.
