Assistant Professor Marie Auger-Méthé named CRC Tier II in Statistical Ecology

We were very happy to read the Government of Canada’s recent announcement of new and renewed Canada Research Chairs (CRCs), especially because one of our Assistant Professors, Marie Auger-Méthé, was on the list of new CRC recipients. Marie has now been named as a CRC Tier II in Statistical Ecology.

Marie holds a joint position as an Assistant Professor in the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries and in the Department of Statistics. Her work involves Ecology, Statistics, and Marine Sciences. She’s passionate about polar and marine ecosystems, and much of her work involves developing statistical tools that help answer challenging ecological questions. Most recently, Marie has been interested in developing statistical methods to help identify important habitats for marine animals.

Marie’s CRC is one of 15 new CRCs at UBC. 16 CRCs at UBC have also been renewed, and one has been advanced. In total, the Government of Canada announced 346 CRCs, recognizing research excellence at 52 universities across Canada.
