Professor Harry Joe Receives SSC Gold Medal

Harry Joe has been awarded the Statistical Society of Canada's Gold Medal, the highest research honour the society bestows.  Harry has received this medal

“….in recognition of his deep and impactful contributions to statistical science, most notably in multivariate dependence modelling, but also in composite likelihood,  statistical computing, time-series analysis, and methodology for psychometric and genetic applications.”

2015 Nash Medal in Statistics Awarded to Ran Wang

The 2015 Stanley W. Nash Medal in Statistics is awarded to Ran Wang.
Ran completed a combined Honours degree in Statistics and Math, and graduated at the May convocation. She has worked with faculty members of the Statistics department on some very interesting research projects, and has accomplished a great deal during her years in the Department. The 2015 Marshall Prize Winner Announced

Andy Leung has been awarded the Marshall Prize for 2015.

Andy is in the late stages of his PhD program, which is being supervised by Dr. Ruben Zamar. Andy already has two publications and an R package at CRAN. He has contributed a lot to the Department as graduate student representative and in the development of WebWork problems. He is also a past winner of a graduate TA award.

Professor Ruben Zamar and Dr. Saber Miresmailli, founder and CEO of Ecoation Innovative Solution Inc. Statistics Department Award in Data Science

In 2014-15, the Statistics Department announced a new student award, in Data Science, and received many excellent nominations. 

This award's first recipient is Rosemary McCloskey, a Master’s student in Bioinformatics, in recognition of her contributions to a large-scale project on virus evolution at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS.
