At the recent 2019 Joint Statistical Meetings, Will Welch was recognized as Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA).
The citation reads:
For his pioneering work in the establishment and development of the design and analysis of computer experiments; for blending creative computational and statistical methodology, both in design and analysis, with cross-disciplinary application across a spectrum of fields; for innovation in teaching and leadership in advancing the interests of statistics in academe and through professional statistical organizations.
From the ASA's website:
The designation of ASA Fellow has been a significant honor for nearly 100 years. Under ASA bylaws, the Committee on Fellows can elect up to one-third of one percent of the total association membership as fellows each year.
