Description of the presentation: As part of a new initiative to showcase the work of mathematician-statisticians (methodologists) at Statistics Canada, our agency is giving a presentation at the University of British Columbia, highlighting the type of work a mathematician-statistician does and how it relates to studies in mathematics, statistics, operations research, or data science. This presentation will also cover the benefits of working in this role at Statistics Canada, and provide information on the launch of the next recruitment campaign. This presentation will give concrete examples of our applications of mathematical, statistical or data science concepts within the framework of our organization, whose mandate is to serve Canadian society.

Presenter: McKeowen Watts is currently a methodologist in the Economic Statistics Methods Division at Statistics Canada, where he has been working since September 2021. In his role, he has provided methodological guidance on numerous business surveys and worked on internal quality assurance projects. He holds a BSc in Statistics from Simon Fraser University, and is based out of Vancouver, British Columbia.
