Evan Sidrow was awarded the Student Oral Presentation Award at the 2024 Western North American Region of the International Biometric Society (WNAR) student paper competition. His talk, “Stochastic Optimization for Efficient Inference in Ecological Hidden Markov Models,” earned him this prestigious recognition.
The annual WNAR conference hosts a student paper competition to celebrate exceptional work in both written and oral categories. All participants receive travel awards, while winners, such as Evan, are awarded additional monetary prizes and certificates.
Evan was recently named a CANSSI Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellow after completing his Ph.D. studies at the University of British Columbia's Department of Statistics under the guidance of Professors Nancy Heckman and Marie Auger-Méthé. More information on this achievement can be found here.
