UBC Statistics Grad Students Recognized for Outstanding Presentations at CSSC 2024

Parham Pishrobat presenting during the Twelfth Annual Canadian Statistics Student Conference.

Parham Pishrobat, a master's student in Statistics, earned the second prize for his oral presentation in the master’s section at the 12th Annual Canadian Statistics Student Conference (CSSC), held on June 1, 2024, at Memorial University, St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. His presentation, titled "Introducing Dynamic Regression Model for Hydrological Inference," received high praise from attendees. Reflecting on his experience, Parham shared, "Presenting my research at the CSSC was a privilege. The positive feedback on my oral presentation, along with the encouragement during the poster presentation at the SSC annual meeting, was incredibly rewarding. Engaging with a diverse group of statisticians provided valuable suggestions and insights, enriching my understanding of our field and expanding my professional network."

Since the conference, Parham has transitioned from his master's program to a Ph.D. under the guidance of Professor Will Welch. "My current research focus is on emulating dynamical systems while continuing my work on dynamic modeling time series analysis," he stated. The CSSC provided a vital platform for Parham to showcase his innovative work and interact with leading experts, further fueling his passion for advancing statistical methodologies.

Rachel Lobay also won the second prize for her oral presentation in the Ph.D. category at the same conference. Reflecting on her experience, Rachel commented, "I am very happy that my oral presentation at the CSSC went well. I owe a great deal of this success to the guidance and feedback from my supervisor and those in the research group. I am grateful for the opportunity to present my work and to connect with other students as they shared their work. I am already looking forward to the next conference!"
